Suzuki Ecstar rider very solid on a first day of activity at Motegi hit by incessant rain.

The weather forecast of heavy rain for the whole weekend at Motegi looked to have been correct on Friday, which began with a wet track. The first day of the Japanese Grand Prix was contested under an intense and constant downpour, but Álex Rins was able to use his track time to continue accumulating experience with a MotoGP bike under such conditions.

During the first session, the youngest rider on the grid achieved eighth position and was consistently inside the Top 10.

In the afternoon, in another wet session, Rins consolidated his good feeling and took tenth position, reducing his morning time by 7 tenths. With this result, the Suzuki Ecstar rider would be in Q2, depending on times in the third Free Practice session on Saturday.

The rain is set to continue to be a protagonist at the Japanese track on Day 2, in which Álex Rins will attempt to get into Q2 for the first time in his MotoGP career.

“In Motorland the test was quite good. It was very positive for us and we were able to test a lot of things. Here on the first day in Motegi, even on the wet track I had a good feeling. The new fairing we have keep the wheel on the ground more and we do not do as many wheelies. It is great that Suzuki is working very well. For tomorrow I hope to take another step forward even if it rains.”
